DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A North Oak Cliff family is on edge after someone threw a massive landscaping rock through their living room window and shot a fire extinguisher into their home along Winnetka Avenue.
Sarah Holmes had just finished dinner with her two young boys when she heard a boom and her home appear to fill up with smoke.
“There’s probably a car out there that needs help you know, it ran into our house,” said Sarah Holmes.
But after Sarah and her husband Stephen realized it was not a car wreck, their shock turned to anger.
“What would you do that for besides to scare somebody?” asked Sarah Holmes.
Someone had evidently thrown a heavy, landscaping brick through their window. They then filled the home up with a cloudy substance by shooting the fire extinguisher through the shards of broken glass.
“This is our house. We worked really hard for it. It’s insulting when someone comes in and tries to ruin it,” said Sarah Holmes.
The Holmes family might not be alone.
Shortly after posting on Facebook about the incident, several comments poured in reporting a similar incident down the street on Elmwood Boulevard.
All of this comes on the heels of a recent string of car windows being shattered with rocks in the same North Oak Cliff area.
“It’s taking it to the next level,” said Stephen Holmes.
Stephen said his family could have easily been sitting right where it all happened.
“It’s pretty bold and I would be weary if I was in that position because plenty of homeowners have guns in their house,” said Holmes.
Sarah and Stephen Holmes feel the worst part is the impact it has had on their young children.
“It’s something we’re going to have to move past. The boys are scared, they’re sleeping with us at night,” said Sarah Holmes.
Dallas Police said prank or not, detectives are now investigating.
