FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Vandals trashed Fort Worth’s Como Elementary School Saturday night. Sunday teachers helped clean up the mess on their day off.
They swept up the shades of broken glass and picked up piles of animal crackers. Ken Lightner, whose daughter works here, said he might have witnessed the vandals.
“It’s crazy. For what?” said exasperated neighbor Lightner. “I saw these three guys on the roof up here I stopped and blowed my horn. I thought they were just messing around. And then they ran so I thought they were going to leave.”
A district spokesperson said surveillance video captured images of the three men, who came in through an already broken second floor window.
The vandals emptied fire extinguishers, scattered papers, and even set a flag on fire. Staff also discovered electronic equipment missing from classrooms and the school office.
Larry Crockett and his children once attended Como Elementary School. But he’s never seen anything like this, and he wants those responsible caught.
“I was coming here to see how bad the damage was. I can’t believe it, that they would do something so terrible to our school,” said a shocked Crockett.
“The community’s not gonna allow them to get away with this.” Monday is a staff development day, so no there’s no class scheduled.
But students should be back on campus Tuesday.
